ITINERARY
Day 1: Cusco – Amazon Pona Lodge.
Your
Manu Reserved Zone 6 Days Tour from Cusco begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel at 5:00AM in Cusco using our private transportation. As we travel from the Andes Mountains toward the Amazon rainforest, our first stop will be the pre-Inca burial towers of Ninamarca, an important archaeological site near Paucartambo.
We continue driving through breathtaking Andean landscapes until reaching
Tres Cruces, the gateway to
Manu National Park and one of the highest points along the route.
From there, we descend into the spectacular
Manu cloud forest, an ecosystem famous for its incredible biodiversity. During guided walks through the fog forest, we will search for Peru’s national bird, the famous
Cock-of-the-Rock, as well as woolly monkeys, orchids, bromeliads, and exotic bird species including the Blue-banded Toucanet, Golden-headed Quetzal, and Crested Quetzal.
With favorable conditions and some luck, travelers may also encounter the elusive
Andean Bear (Tremarctos ornatus).
In the afternoon, we arrive at
Amazon Pona Lodge, surrounded by lush rainforest vegetation. Before dinner, guests may participate in an optional night walk to observe nocturnal wildlife including frogs, insects, spiders, and other Amazon rainforest creatures.

DAY 2: Amazon Pona Lodge – Papaya Eco Lodge.
After breakfast, we continue by our vehicle toward the port of Atalaya, passing through tropical rainforest landscapes and local plantations along the route.
Upon arrival at Atalaya port, we board a motorized canoe and begin our river expedition along the
Alto Madre de Dios River, entering deeper into the Amazon rainforest.
During the boat journey, travelers may observe a variety of wildlife species along the riverbanks, including herons, kingfishers, turtles, and the impressive
King Vulture (Sarcoramphus papa).
As we continue deeper into the
Manu Biosphere Reserve, our experienced jungle guide will explain the ecological importance of the rainforest and introduce visitors to the extraordinary biodiversity found in this protected region.
In the afternoon, we explore jungle trails in search of monkeys, tropical birds, colorful butterflies, medicinal plants, and other wildlife species found in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest.
Optional night excursions provide excellent opportunities to observe nocturnal wildlife such as frogs, tarantulas, snakes, insects, and caimans.

DAY 3: Papaya Eco Lodge – Manu river - Casa Matsiguenka Lodge.
Today we continue navigating deeper into the remote
Manu Reserved Zone, one of the best wildlife observation areas in the Amazon rainforest.
As we travel along the
Manu River, visitors have excellent opportunities to observe wildlife resting along beaches and riverbanks. Possible sightings include black caimans, jaguars, capybaras, turtles, and several monkey species moving through the forest canopy.
This region is also known for rare wildlife sightings, including jaguars resting near riverbanks during sunny mornings.
Throughout the day, we explore pristine rainforest environments and learn about the incredible biodiversity of
Manu National Park, recognized worldwide as one of the richest ecosystems on Earth.
The river journey itself offers spectacular scenery and opportunities for wildlife photography inside untouched rainforest landscapes.

DAY 4: Casa Matsiguenka Lodge – Macaws Clay Lick - Salvador Lake.
Early in the morning, we visit nearby oxbow lakes where wildlife activity is especially abundant.
These lakes provide habitat for the famous giant river otters, one of the most fascinating and endangered mammals of the Amazon rainforest. Visitors may also observe black caimans, white caimans, turtles, exotic birds, and monkeys living around the lake ecosystem.
During our guided exploration, we learn about the ecological importance of these freshwater habitats and the conservation efforts protecting the wildlife of the
Manu Reserved Zone.
The surrounding rainforest trails offer additional opportunities to observe colorful butterflies, tropical birds, insects, and unique plant species native to the Amazon rainforest.
In the evening, we return to the lodge surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.

DAY 5: Casa Matsiguenka Lodge – Papaya Eco Lodge.
Before sunrise, we begin an early morning excursion to visit a
macaw clay lick, one of the most spectacular wildlife experiences in the Amazon rainforest.
At the clay lick, visitors may observe colorful macaws, parrots, and parakeets gathering along the riverbanks to consume mineral-rich clay, an essential part of their diet.
This incredible natural spectacle offers excellent opportunities for photography and birdwatching in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.
Later in the day, we continue way back by our boat to Reserve Ecological Shipetiari, where we spend the night.
Optional night activities provide another opportunity to discover nocturnal rainforest wildlife.

DAY 6: Papaya Eco Lodge - Cusco.
Early in the morning, we enjoy one final opportunity to explore the rainforest before beginning our return journey.
After breakfast, we travel by boat back to Atalaya port, where our private transportation will be waiting to take us back to Cusco through the cloud forest and Andean mountain landscapes.
Along the return route, there may be additional opportunities to observe birds and wildlife species in the cloud forest region.
We arrive back in Cusco in the late afternoon, ending this unforgettable
6 day Manu Reserved Zone adventure in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest.
